About Bloom
"Bloom" I have lived in Marathon, Texas since December of 1988. Big Bend National Park has been my muse and remains my life's work. I see myself as part historian, part documentarian and part artist, though I try to approach every part artistically. All of my images are portraits. In 2015 the Spring bloom was the best I've ever witnessed. There were flowers where I've never seen flowers and flowers that I've never seen. Not only that, but they lasted for weeks and there were hundreds of them. There were sweet smells in the wind. Every thing was abundant. Every living thing was happy. The desert was happy. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I immersed myself in it. My years of living here have given me a great advantage. When I go in to the park, I know where it rained last. I know when a mountain is dancing with light and I know when something is not "normal." None of these images are "Normal."
