**Jack Wilson and Wann Langston**
I hung out with Jack and Wann for a week while they were digging up a 65 million year old crocodile. These two were in their 80's and played in the dirt like kids. The park had put them up in that house on the East side and I stayed there with them. I remember there was a young woman doing some research, and she was staying there too. She had cameras set up somewhere as I recall, and her hours were up early. I think Jack was a little put out with her because she did not know, and show proper respect for Jack who was the man that discovered all the bones that were on display at the fossil bone exhibit. At the end of this week Jack formerly retired. He gave his rock hammer to a protege.
**Tom Lea**
I was returning from an assignment in New Mexico and stopped for the night in El Paso. When I got to my room I looked in the phone book (remember those) and called the Lea residence. Sarah answered the phone and I explained I was a photographer and wanted to make a portrait of Tom. She said "what for." I said "posterity." She asked "how much does it cost." I said "It's free." She said hold on, and returned to the phone a few minutes later and said to meet Tom in his studio at 2PM. I thanked her for the appointment and asked her name. She said "what for." I said "respect." She said "It's Mrs. Lea." I never get to meet her, but I made it to Tom's studio on time the next day. I didn't take in lighting and thought I would just shoot existing light. Tom warmed up slowly, but during the shoot he said "you're late." But not because I was late for the appointment, but I was late in his life. He wasn't painting any more. I sent him some prints and he wrote me a very nice letter which I am proud to possess.
