June 2020
I have started a new series I call Marathon_2020. Since we have not been straying far from home, I started to document my town in a new way. I purchased a set of lights, and have been staging these images. It’s a lot of work, even for such simple set ups, but it’s a lot of fun. Marci and I are doing them together. She is my “Art Director.” She has a great eye, better than mine, and it’s really fun working on something together.
Happy Full Moon. Get Outside.
These Days
I am not sure what to talk about these days. We are all in the same boat waiting to see light at the end of this Covid tunnel. My buddy Dan mentioned yesterday on our bike ride that the pandemic in the 1900's lasted two years. We are just four months into this one. That was a reality check.
I wish you all well during this odd time in America and history. Your love and support of my work helps me get up in the morning. I am truly blessed.
Before digital photography simplified night work I started a series I called "The Camera Never Sleeps." It was featured in Texas Monthly. I would set up the camera in the dark night, open the shutter,"paint" the plant with a light, and then go to sleep, leaving the shutter open for the earth's rotation to streak the film with stars. Most of the time I would wake up and close the shutter, and start again. Sometimes the sunlight woke me up and the film was overexposed. I had four cameras, and would set them up all over the park, nap a little and go recover them. I had so much fun. My photographs are likes songs for me. I can look at them and take myself back to that day, that feeling, and that emotion. It's very sweet to document my personal life and time on this planet through my images.
