A TALK
I am giving a talk at the Museum of the Big Bend June 12, 2021 from 10 to 11 am in the education room. It coincides with a night photography exhibition put on by the Texas Photographic Society and judged by Lance Keming, who has written a book and taught workshops on the subject. Here is a link to the selected images: https://texasphoto.org/contests/AtNight/2021/selected/
Goatskins
Years ago there use to be a burro roping contest in Marathon. The local ranchers and cowboys would round up wild burros on border ranches, transport them to town, and hold the contest at Fussy Flats Arena. I went to a ranch to witness and photograph the roundup itself, and while I was there I saw these goatskins hanging on a clothesline. I set up a camera and strobe and photographed them. I sold a print to a man in Houston, and at that time I did not have a dry mount press. He took the image to Ronnie McMurtry Gallery to get it flattened and maybe framed, and while he was there Clint Willhour happened to be at the gallery, and he and Ronnie both purchased the print for themselves. And that’s how I was introduced to Clint. He passed away a few months ago. He was a fine judge of art and artists. He is certainly missed.
As always, thank you all for the support and keeping me alive in Big Bend.
Happy Full Moon. Get Outside
