Cloud Of Summer
I shot this image in the summer of 99. I just recently printed it digitally, and printed it large. It is very beautiful, with full range of tones. I shot it at the edge of town, and there were two or three local residents pulled over to view it. It was extraordinary, and stayed in the sky till the sun set. The Museum of South Texas (Corpus Christi) has it in their collection. They told me they had a show and placed it next an Ansel Adams print, and though I was extremely flattered, I jokingly told them, well no one is going to look at mine.
The Second Vaccine and a New Acceptance
Marci and I got our second vaccine, and I finally made the trip to Austin I had been putting off for months. I was cautious and wore my mask in public, but felt like I could leave my guard down when it came to giving my friends the hugs I had been longing for. Socializing felt good, though there was always a voice in the back of my head screaming NO NO NO. This pandemic has shuffled the deck of my priorities, and the first card isn’t work. Not that it isn’t at the top of the deck, and there are several things at play in this evolution. Marci has created us a space to have guests. The 500 square feet adobe cabin we’ve been living in for three decades wasn’t an inviting space for entertaining. We have upgraded to our version of a McMansion, triple the space of our jacal, with glorious views of the glass mountains from every room. We are just beginning to feel how normal people live. The sacrifices we’ve made for my career realized. Our noses slightly lifted from the grindstone, making the time to, and enjoying the pleasure of, having a meal or a drink with an old friend or new acquaintance soon to be one. Life is good in this semi retired state.
Thank you all for the support you have given me over the years and especially in these pandemic times.
