**No More Bellyaching**
Thank you for listening to the complaints about my back. I only posted them to tell the story of divine intervention. I do appreciate the feedback, helpful suggestions, and books. But enough venting about my health stuff. There are people out there with a lot more problems than me, and I am still a fortunate man.
**Texas Country Reporter**
In the early 90's Texas Country Reporter did a segment on me about the photo lampshades I had revived from inventor W D Smithers. They came back last year, and picked up a kind of what's he doing now story. It aired February 18th. I've uploaded it to my website. Go to www.jameshevans.com and look for it in the menu on the left.
**Hallie and Dadie Stillwell**
When Dadie opened the Hallie's Hall of Fame Museum I made this portrait of the two of them for Texas Monthly to announce the celebration. I can't tell you how much I loved these woman, and what they meant to me. Hallie was a justice of the peace, and we were "THE" wedding team of the area for a decade or so. Hallie was quick witted and direct. She was naturally funny. Dadie was my surrogate mother. She was warm and nurturing. There was a documentary about Hallie, and it premiered at the Ritchey Brother's building in Marathon. Dadie and I sat together hand in hand through the whole event. As so many of my friends, I never expected them to die. Though, through my images and remembrances they remain a part of my heartbeat.
**Back In The Kitchen**
As you may know, when I first moved to Marathon I cooked at the Gage Hotel. I was not a chef by any means. They had several different plates, so all I had to do was learn the menu. I did enjoy it, but my heart was always with making photographs, so for me it was just a job, though I did care how it tasted, was presented and delivered in 15 minutes. And I really liked my fellow workers. Phil Thomas, the real cook made brisket on the weekends. He was an excellent barbecuer. He would cut away all the fat. It was lean, tender and very tasty. I only wish I had asked him to teach me how he prepared it. In the kitchen I liked learning how to use the different heat sources, and I would use my darkroom timers to learn how long things took to cook. Marci and I prepare meals a lot, but recently I set up the kitchen in my little house to cook and bake. Of course, I have to have every kitchen tool. I think this might be a boy thing. Enamel coated cast iron pots, an array of skillets and every attachment for the tabletop mixer. And my personal favorite, a Bernzomatic TS8000 - High Intensity Trigger Start Torch. Man is that fun! There are several gadgets too. In my purchases I bought an egg timer for Marci, and she handed it back pointing to her watch saying, I already have one. Woman are so practical, and by far the best thing on the planet.
